Afternoon Meeting

The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met at 2:35 p.m., this day, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Mabel DeWare, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: The Honourable Senators Bonnell, Bosa, Cools, DeWare, Haidasz, Landry, Losier-Cool, Murray and Phillips. (9)

Other Senator present: The Honourable Senator Cohen.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Grant Purves, Research Officer.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

From the Canadian Federation of Students:

Brad Lavigne, Chair;

Jocelyn Charron, Government Relations Coordinator;

Denise Doherty-Delorme, Researcher.

From the Canadian Restaurant and Food Services Association:

John Rothschild, President and CEO, Prime Restaurant Group;

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 30, 1996, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-12, An Act respecting employment insurance in Canada. (See Proceedings of the Committee dated June 3, 1996, Issue No. 4.)

Mr. Lavigne made a statement and, with Ms Doherty-Delorme and Mr. Charron, answered questions.

Mr. Rothschild made a statement and, with Ms Reynolds, answered questions.

Ms Galarneau and Mr. Gander made statements and answered questions.

At 4:38 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 4:45 p.m., the meeting resumed.

Ms Swift and Mr. Whyte made statements and answered questions.

Mr. Crowley made a statement and answered questions.

At 6:15 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
