The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met at 9:35 a.m. this day in Room 256-S, Centre Block, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Mabel M. DeWare, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bonnell, Bosa, Cohen, Cools, DeWare, Forest, Jessiman, Losier-Cool and Maheu (9).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senators Graham.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Grant Purves, Research Officer.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESSES:

Dan McTeague, M.P.

From the Multiple Organ Retrieval and Exchange (MORE) Program of Ontario:

Pat Sherbin, Communications Manager.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, December 18, 1996, the committee began consideration of Bill C-202, An Act respecting a National Organ Donor Week in Canada. (For complete text of Order of Reference see proceedings of the Committee dated February 4, 1997, issue No. 20 .)

Mr. McTeague and Ms Sherbin made opening statements and answered questions.

The Hon. Senator Bosa moved -- THAT Bill C-202 be reported without amendment.

The question being put on the motion, it was agreed.

The Hon. Senator Bosa moved -- THAT the committee adjourn.

At 10:05 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
