The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met in camera this day at 9:07 a.m. in Room 705, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Leonard J. Gustafson, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Fairbairn, P.C., Ferretti Barth, Fitzpatrick, Gill, Gustafson, Oliver, Robichaud, F., P.C., Rossiter and Wiebe (9).

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Research Officer.

Pursuant to its order of reference to study the present state and the future of agriculture in Canada, consideration of a draft report. (See Issue No. 1 for the full text of the Order of Reference.)

It was agreed, -- That a second draft, based on the recommendations presented, be completed and reviewed by the drafting committee.

It was agreed, -- That a final draft be distributed to members for comments.

It was agreed, -- That the drafting committee be authorized to approve the final draft for tabling with the Senate.

It was agreed, -- That the Chair seek the authority of the Senate to table with the Clerk of the Senate, should the Senate not then be sitting.

At 10:06 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Chalifoux, Fairbairn, P.C., Ferretti Barth, Fitzpatrick, Gustafson, Robichaud, F., P.C., Rossiter, Stratton and Wiebe (9).

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Research Officer.

Pursuant to its order of reference to study the present state and the future of agriculture in Canada, consideration of a draft report. (See Issue No. 1 for the full text of the Order of Reference.)

It was agreed, -- That the committee adopt a draft interim report and that the Chair and Deputy Chair be authorized to make minor spelling or stylistic changes, without affecting the substantive content.

At 9:21 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
