The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 5:50 p.m., this day, in Room 705, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Lowell Murray presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Banks, Bolduc, Cools, Finnerty, Mahovlich, Moore, Murray, and Stratton (8).
In attendance: Mr. Guy Beaumier, Research Officer, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on June 13, 2000, the committee began its examination of Bill C-32, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 28, 2000.
Roy Cullen made a brief presentation and with the assistance of departmental officials, answered questions from committee members.
It was agreed -- That the committee proceed to clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-32.
It was agreed -- That the title stand postponed.
It was agreed -- That clause 1 carry.
It was agreed -- That clauses 2 to 11 carry.
It was agreed -- That clauses 12 to 16 carry.
It was agreed -- That clauses 17 to 22 carry.
It was agreed -- That clauses 23 to 34 carry.
It was agreed -- That clauses 35 to 36 carry.
It was agreed -- That clauses 37 to 41 carry.
It was agreed -- That clauses 42 to 47 carry.
It was agreed -- That Bill C-32 be adopted without amendment.
It was agreed -- That the Chair report the Bill at the next sitting of the Senate.
At 7:53 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 9:40 a.m., this day, in camera, Room 705, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Lowell Murray, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bolduc, Cools, Doody, Ferretti Barth, and Murray (5).

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on March 2, 2000, the committee continued its examination of the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2001.
It was agreed -- That the draft report entitled "Second Interim Report on the 2000-2001 Estimates" be adopted;
That the Chair and Deputy Chair be authorized to make such typographical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report; and
That the Chair be instructed to present the report to the Senate.
It was further agreed --
That the draft report entitled "A report on the committee's Examination of Canada's Emergency and Disaster Preparedness" be adopted;
That the Chair and Deputy Chair be authorized to make such typographical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report; and
That the Chair be instructed to table the report to the Senate.
At 10:30 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
