The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries met this day at 7:15 p.m. in room 505, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Gerald J. Comeau, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Comeau, Cook, Furey, Johnson, Mahovlich, Perry, Robertson, Robichaud, P.C. (Saint-Louis-de-Kent) and Watt (9).

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Claude Emery, Research Officer.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate

WITNESSES:

Mr. Daniel P. Bernier, Executive Director (Ottawa);

From the Maritime Fishermen's Union:

Mr. Michael Belliveau, Executive Secretary (New Brunswick).

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, December 7, 1999, the committee continued its examination upon the matters relating to the fishing industry.

Mr. McCurdy made a statement and, with Mr. Belliveau, Mr. Bernier and Mr. Allain, answered questions.
