OTTAWA, Wednesday, May 17, 2000

The Senate Committee of Selection met this day at 9:15 a.m., pursuant to rule 85(1)(b) of the Rules of the Senate, for the nomination of certain senators to serve on the Special Senate Committee on Bill C-20, An Act to give effect to the requirement for clarity as set out in the opinion of the Supreme Court of Canada in the Quebec Secession Reference.

Senator Léonce Mercier (Chairman) in the Chair.

The Chairman: Honourable senators, we are here this morning to receive nominations of senators from the opposition to serve on the Special Senate Committee on Bill C-20.

Senator DeWare, do you have any names to put forward?

Senator DeWare: Mr. Chairman, I nominate Senators Murray, Kinsella, Beaudoin, Rivest, Nolin and Bolduc.

The Chairman: Is it agreed, honourable senators?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: Carried.

Senator Fairbairn: I move that the chairman report the nominations to the Senate.

The Chairman: Is it agreed, honourable senators?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: Carried.

The committee adjourned.
