OTTAWA, Tuesday, June 13, 2000

The Senate Selection Committee met this day at 11 a.m. to nominate the senators to serve on the Special Senate Committee to reassess Canada's anti-drug legislation and policies.

Senator Léonce Mercier (Chairman) presiding.

The Chairman: Pursuant to Rule 85(1)(b) of the Rules of the Senate, the Committee will nominate a number of senators to serve on the Special Senate Committee on Illegal Drugs.

Senator Nolin: I move that the following three senators be appointed: they are, in alphabetical order, Senator Sharon Carstairs, Senator Colin Kenny and Senator Lucie Pépin.

The Chairman: Are there any other nominations?

Senator Murray: For the Conservative Party, I nominate the following two senators: they are, in alphabetical order, Senator Pierre Claude Nolin and Senator Eileen Rossiter.

The Chairman: Comments?

Senator Murray: No.

The Chairman: Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?

Voices: Agreed.

The Chairman: Motion agreed to. Shall the Chairman report these nominations to the Senate?

Senator Nolin: I so move.

The Chairman: Agreed?

Voices: Agreed.
