The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 3:00 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Lise Bacon, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bacon, Callbeck, Finestone, P.C., Forrestall, Furey, Johnson, Kirby, Poulin and Spivak (9).

In attendance: The official reporters of the Senate and Martin Brennan, Special Advisor.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on May 30, 2000, the committee proceeded to study Bill C-26. (See Issue No. 14, Monday, June 5 , 2000 for full text of the Order of Reference.)

WITNESSES:

Malcom Freeman, Vice-President and General Manager Canada.

From Cathay Pacific:

Robert S. Russel, Lawyer, Partner of Bordner Ladner Gervais (also representing British Airways).

From Air France:

Pascal Briodin, Executive Vice-President and General Director of Air France in Canada;

Gilbert Poliquin, Lawyer.

The committee suspended at 4:08 p.m.

The committee resumed at 4:15 p.m.

From Canadian Auto Workers (CAW):

Gary Fane, Director of Transportation;

Berni Viczko, President, Canadian Regional;

Anne Caldwell, Union representative, Canadian Regional;

Graham Urquhart, Union representative, Canadian Regional;

The witnesses made a presentation and answered questions.

The committee suspended at 6:05 p.m.

The committee resumed at 6:35 p.m.

From Air Canada:

Robert Milton, President and CEO;

Douglas D. Port, Senior Vice-President, Corporate Affairs and Government Relations;

Duncan Dee, Executive Assistant to the President and CEO.

The witnesses made a presentation and answered questions.

It was agreed -- That a document entitled: "Prorate manual, Passenger, June 2000" be tabled as an exhibit to the committee (5900-2.36/T1/C-26, 18 "1").

At 8:05 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
