The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 7:02 p.m. in Room 705, Victoria Building, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Leonard J. Gustafson, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Gustafson, Hubley, LeBreton, Oliver, Stratton, Tkachuk, Tunney and Wiebe (9).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Sparrow (1).

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: June Dewetering.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESSES:

From the Farm Credit Corporation:

John Ryan, President and Chief Executive Officer;

Louise Neveu, Executive Vice-President, Chief Knowledge Officer;

John Lagacé, National Director, Government and Industry Relations;

Scott Grant, Portfolio Management Officer.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 20, 2001 the committee continues to examine international trade in agricultural and agri-food products, and short-term and long-term measures for the health of the agricultural and the agri-food industry in all regions of Canada. (For complete text of order of reference see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

Mr. Ryan made a statement and, together with Ms Neveu, answered questions.

It was agreed that discussions on rule 94 be postponed to a later meeting.

At 8:10 p.m., the committee went in camera for a discussion on future business.

At 8:53 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
