The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 8:33 a.m. in Room 505, Victoria Building, the Deputy Chair, the Honourable Senator John Wiebe, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Hubley, LeBreton, Oliver, Sparrow, Tunney and Wiebe (6).
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 20, 2001 the committee continues to examine international trade in agricultural and agri-food products, and short-term and long-term measures for the health of the agricultural and the agri-food industry in all regions of Canada.
WITNESSES:
From the Federation of Canadian Municipalities:
Mr. Jack Hayden, Member, National Board of Directors.
From the Department of Health:
Mr. Anthony Chu, Director, Innovation and Investment Division, Office of Health and the Information Highway, Analysis and Connectivity Branch;
Dr. John Wootton, Special Advisor on Rural Health.
Mr. Hayden made an opening statement and answered questions.
At 9:30 a.m., the committee was suspended.
At 9:32 a.m., the committee resumed its hearings.
Dr. Wootton and Mr. Chu each made an opening statement and answered questions.
At 10:28 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
