The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day, at 6:15 p.m. in room 256-S, Centre Block, the Deputy Chair, the Honourable Senator John Wiebe, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Biron, Day, Hubley, Johnson, Stratton, Tkachuk, Tunney and Wiebe (8).

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: June Dewetering.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 20, 2001 the committee continues to examine international trade in agricultural and agri-food products, and short-term and long-term measures for the health of the agricultural and the agri-food industry in all regions of Canada. (For complete text of Order of Reference see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

WITNESSES:

From the Canadian Farm Women's Network:

Judy Brown, President, Ontario Farm Women's Network.

From Statistics Canada:

Ray Bollman, Chief, Research and Analysis Section.

The Clerk informed the committee of the absence of the Chair and presided over the election of an Acting Chair.

The Honourable Senator Hubley moved - That theHonourable Senator Wiebe be Acting Chair of the committee for this meeting.

The question being put on the motion, it was agreed.

Judy Brown made an opening statement and answered questions.

Ray Bollman made an opening statement and answered questions.

The committee recalled Judy Brown to make some additional comments.

At 8:10 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
