The Standing Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met at 11 a.m. this day, in Room 505, Victoria Building, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Kolber, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Angus, Christensen, Di Nino, Finestone, P.C., Furey, Kelleher, P.C., Kolber, Kroft, Lynch-Staunton, Oliver, Poulin, Setlakwe, Tkachuk and Wiebe (14).

In attendance: Mr. Stephen L. Harris, and from the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament, Law and Government Division: Mr. Geoff Kieley, Research Officer.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, March 12, 2001, the committee continued its examin ation of Bill S-17, An Act to amend the Patent Act.

Mr. Keon made a statement and with the other witnesses from the Canadian Drug Manufacturers Association answered questions.

Mr. Benedict from the Canadian Health Coalition made a statement and answered questions.

Mrs. Kaegi made a statement and with Mr. Wackley answered questions.

At 12:45 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
