The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment, and Natural Resources met at 6:13 p.m. this day, in Room 257 East Block, the Chair, the Honourable Nicholas W. Taylor, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Christensen, Cochrane, Kelleher, P.C., Sibbeston, Spivak and Taylor (6).

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Lynne Myers, Research Officer.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on May 2, 2001, the committee proceeded to study Bill C-4. (See Issue No. 9, Tuesday, May 15 and Thursday, May 17, 2001 for full text of the Order of Reference).

WITNESSES:

From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada:

Sheila Fraser, Interim Auditor General;

Maria Barrados, Assistant Auditor General, Audit Operation Branch;

John Wiersema, Assistant Auditor General, Audit Operation Branch.

The witnesses made a presentation and answered questions.

The witnesses from the Office of the Auditor General of Canada submitted a brief.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on May 10, 2001, the committee proceeded to study Bill C-3 (See Issue No. 10, Tuesday, May 29, 2001 for full text of the Order of Reference).

Bernard M. Michel, Chair and Chief Executive Officer.

The witness made a presentation and answered questions.
