THE SENATE COMMITTEE OF SELECTION

OTTAWA, Thursday, February 22, 2001

In accordance with Rule 85(1)(b) of the Rules of the Senate, the Committee of Selection met this day at 1 p.m. to nominate the senators who will serve on several select committees during the current session.

Senator Léonce Mercier (Chairman) presiding.

[Translation]

The Chairman: Honourable senators, on today's agenda is the nomination of the senators who will serve on several select committees, the first being the Joint Committee on the Library of Parliament.

Senator Corbin: I wish to nominate Senators Bryden, Cordy and Poy for the Joint Committee on the Library of Parliament.

The Chairman: Are there any other nominations?

[English]

Senator DeWare: I would like to present the names of Senator Beaudoin and Senator Oliver for the Joint Committee on the Library of Parliament.

The Chairman: Is it agreed?

Senator Corbin: I move the adoption of whatever it is we have done.

[Translation]

 The Chairman: Next is the Joint Committee for the Scrutiny of Regulations.

[English]

Senator Corbin: I would like to advance the names of the Honourable Senators Bacon, Bryden, Hervieux-Payette, Finestone and Moore for membership on the Joint Committee on Scrutiny of Regulations.

Senator DeWare: I only have two nominations for that committee at this time. One is Senator Kinsella; the other is Senator Nolin.

Senator Corbin: I move adoption of the motion.

[Translation]

The Chairman: Our next item is the nomination of senators for the Joint Committee on Official Languages.

[English]

Senator Fairbairn: I would like to propose the following names for the Joint Committee on Official Languages: Senators Bacon, Fraser, Gauthier, Losier-Cool, Maheu and Setlakwe.

Senator DeWare: The opposition's nominations for the Committee on Official Languages would be Senators Beaudoin, Rivest and Simard.

Senator Fairbairn: I propose the adoption of this motion.

The Chairman: Carried.

[Translation]

Senator Corbin: I move that the Chair report to the Senate the nominations agreed to at this day's meeting; and

[English]

That a message be sent to the House of Commons informing that House of the names of the honourable senators appointed to serve on the part of the Senate on joint committees.

[Translation]

The Chairman: Is it agreed?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

Senator Corbin: I move that the committee be adjourned.

 The meeting is adjourned.
