The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 4:00 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the Chair, the Honourable Richard H. Kroft, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Angus, Biron, Kelleher, P.C., Kolber, Kroft, Massicotte, Meighen, Moore and Tkachuk (9).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Chaput and Plamondon (2).

In attendance: From the Economic Division, Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: Ms. June Dewetering, Acting Principal Division and Mr. Yoine Goldstein, Counsel to the Committee.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, October 29, 2002, the committee continued its examination of the administration and operation of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act and the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act.

Mr. Leonard, Mr. Zwaig and Mr. Ward continued to answer questions.

Mr. Whyte and Mr. Piché from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business made a statement and answered questions.

Mr. Treusch from Human Resources Development Canada made a statement and with Mr. Cogliati answered questions.

At 7:25 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 11:00 a.m. in camera pursuant to Rule 92(2)(f) for the purpose of considering a draft report, in room 505, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Richard H. Kroft, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Angus, Biron, Kelleher, P.C., Kroft, Mahovlich, Massicotte, Meighen, Moore and Tkachuk (9).

In attendance: From the Economic Division, Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: Ms. June Dewetering, Acting Principal Division and Mr. Yoine Goldstein, Counsel to the committee.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, October 29, 2002, the committee continued its examination of the administration and operation of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act and the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act.

The committee discussed issues to be included in a draft report.

At 1:30 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
