The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day at 4:05 p.m., in room 256-S, Centre Block, the Deputy Chair, the Honourable Senator Keon, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beaudoin, Chaput, Gauthier, Keon, Lapointe and Léger (6).
Other senator present: The Honourable Yves Morin (1).
In attendance: Marie-Ève Hudon and Marion Ménard, Research Analysts, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

From the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology:
The Honourable Senator Yves Morin, Member.
The committee commenced consideration of its Order of Reference pertaining to its study of the Official Languages Act.
It was moved by the Honourable Senator Gauthier — That the CPAC crew present in the room be authorized to videotape, but not broadcast, proceedings for the day's meeting. The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
Beginning at 4:15 p.m., Mr. Hubert Gauthier made a presentation and answered questions.
Beginning at 5:06 p.m., the Honourable Senator Morin made a presentation and answered questions.
Beginning at 5:40 p.m., the Honourable Senator Gauthier made a presentation. Following discussion, it was moved by the Honourable Senator Gauthier — That the witnesses currently invited for the February 24 meeting of the committee be postponed until further notice and that, in their stead, the federal Minister of Justice (or his representatives) and representatives from the Fédération franco-ténoise be invited to appear before the committee to present their respective viewpoints on a number of topics involving the Franco-Ténois, including the NWT Supreme Court case currently pitting the Fédération against the territorial and federal governments. The question being put on the motion, it was adopted with the proviso that it first be determined whether the sub-judice convention is applicable in the case of this latter topic.
At 6:23 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
