The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day at 12:00 p.m., in room 505, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Rose-Marie Losier-Cool, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Chaput, Comeau, Gauthier, Keon, Lapointe, Léger and Losier-Cool (7).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senator Corbin (1).

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament Marie-Ève Hudon.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

The committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference pertaining to its study of the operation of the Official Languages Act and of regulations and directives made thereunder. (See Committee Proceedings of February 10, 2003, Issue No. 3.)

WITNESSES:

Dyane Adam, Commissioner of Official Languages;

Gérard Finn, Special Advisor;

Guy Renaud, Director General, Policy and Communications;

Johane Tremblay, General Counsel and Director, Legal Services Branch;

Michel Robichaud, Director General, Investigations Branch.

Ms. Adam made a presentation and answered questions.

At 1:22 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
