The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day, in camera pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), at 10:48 a.m., in room 356-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Joan Fraser, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Day, Fraser, Graham, P.C., Gustafson, Merchant, and Johnson (7).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Corbin and Carney, P.C. (2).

In attendance: Terrence Thomas and Allison Padova, Research Officers, Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, March 19, 2003, the committee continued its examination of the current state of Canadian media industries. (For complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the Committee, Issue No. 6, dated March 20, 2003.)

The committee considered its agenda.

At 12:05 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Corbin, Fraser, Graham, P.C., LaPierre, and Johnson (5).

In attendance: Terrence Thomas, Allison Padova, and Joseph Jackson, Research Officers, Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament.

Gaston Jorré, Acting Commissioner of Competition;

Peter Sagar, Deputy Commissioner of Competition, Competition Policy Branch.

Mr. Jorré made a presentation and, with Mr. Sagar, answered questions.

At 11:16 a.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.
