The Special Senate Committee on Certain Government Bills met this day at 1:00 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Hugh Segal, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Dagenais, Day, Frum, Joyal, P.C., Marshall, Mitchell, Segal and Tkachuk (9).
In attendance: Lyne Casavant and Cynthia Kirkby, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; and Brigitte Lemay, Communications Directorate.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 8, 2012, the committee began its examination of Bill S-7, An Act to amend the Criminal Code, the Canada Evidence Act and the Security of Information Act.

WITNESS:

Glenn Gilmour, Counsel, Criminal Law Policy Section.
The minister made a statement and, together with Mr. Gilmour, answered questions.
Pursuant to discussions regarding the committee name, the chair proposed a draft report consolidating the discussions of the organization meeting of March 14, 2012, with the following recommendation:
That the committee recommend its name be changed from the Special Senate Committee on Certain Government Bills to the Special Senate Committee on Anti-Terrorism.
It was agreed that the report be adopted and that the chair be authorized to present the report in the Senate at the earliest opportunity.
At 2:37 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
