The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day, at 6:46 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the deputy chair, the Honourable Lillian Eva Dyck, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Campbell, Dyck, Housakos, Meredith, Patterson, Raine and Sibbeston (8).
In attendance: Shauna Troniak, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, the committee continued its consideration on the evolving legal and political recognition of the collective identity and rights of the Métis in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 14.)
WITNESSES:
Congress of Aboriginal Peoples:
Dwight Dorey, National Vice-Chief;
Julian Morelli, Advisor.
Mr. Dorey made a statement and answered questions.
At 7:47 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 7:50 p.m., the committee resumed in camera and pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the committee considered a draft agenda (future business).
It was agreed that staff be permitted to remain in the room during the in camera portion of the meeting.
At 7:55 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
