The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day, at 7 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Vernon White, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Demers, Dyck, Frum, Lovelace Nicholas, Munson, Patterson, Raine, Seth, Sibbeston and White (10).
In attendance: Shauna Troniak and Wren Nasr, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, December 13, 2012, the committee began its consideration of Bill C-27, An Act to enhance the financial accountability and transparency of First Nations.

The Honourable John Duncan, P.C., M.P., Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development.

Brenda Kustra, Director General, Governance Branch, Regional Operations Sector;
Anne Scotton, Chief Audit and Evaluation Executive, Audit and Evaluation Sector;
Susan MacGowan, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Financial Officer Sector.
Justice Canada:
Karl Jacques, Senior Counsel, Operations and Programs.
Mr. Duncan made a statement and, together with Ms. Kustra, Ms. Scotton and Ms. MacGowan, answered questions.
At 8:12 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
