The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day, at 9:34 a.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Vernon White, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Dyck, Meredith, Munson, Patterson, Raine, Seth, Sibbeston and White (9).
In attendance: Shauna Troniak and Wren Nasr, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, December 13, 2012, the committee continued its consideration of Bill C-27, An Act to enhance the financial accountability and transparency of First Nations.
WITNESSES:

Roland Twinn, Chief;
Michael R. McKinney, Executive Director.
Mr. Twinn and Mr. McKinney each made a statement and answered questions.
The Honourable Senator Sibbeston moved:
That the committee defer consideration of Bill C-27 to allow time to obtain legal advice regarding the constitutionality of the bill and to consider whether amendments would be desirable.
After debate, the question being put on the motion, it was negatived.
At 11:23 a.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
