The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day in room 2, Victoria Building, at 9:30 a.m., the chair, the Honourable Maria Chaput, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Champagne, P.C., Chaput, De Bané, P.C., Fortin- Duplessis, Poirier, Segal and Tardif (7).

In attendance: Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, the committee continued its study on the application of the Official Languages Act and of the regulations and directives made under it. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, the committee continued its examination on the use of the Internet, new media and social media, and the respect for Canadians' language rights. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee. Issue No. 2.)

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, the committee continued its study on Air Canada's obligations under the Official Languages Act. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 3.)

The Honourable James Moore, P.C., M.P., Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

WITNESSES:

Hubert Lussier, Acting Assistant Deputy Minister, Citizenship and Heritage;

Amanda Cliff, Director General, Broadcasting and Digital Communications Branch.

Minister Moore made a presentation and, along with all the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 10:35 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
