The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day at 5 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Maria Chaput, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Chaput, De Bané, P.C., Fortin-Duplessis, Losier- Cool, Poirier and Tardif (6).

In attendance: Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, the committee continued its study on the use of the Internet, new media and social media, and the respect for Canadians' language rights. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 17, 2011, the committee continued its study on CBC/Radio-Canada's obligations under the Official Languages Act and some aspect of the Broadcasting Act. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 8.)

WITNESSES:

Quebec English-language Production Council:

Kirwan Cox, Researcher (by video conference).

Association canadienne d'éducation de langue française:

Yves St-Maurice, President;

Richard Lacombe, Executive Director.

Fédération nationale des conseils scolaires francophones:

Roger Paul, Executive Director.

Mr. Rodgers, Mr. Agombar and Mr. Cox made a statement and answered questions.

At 6:05 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 6:16 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. St-Maurice and Mr. Paul made a statement and, along with Mr. Lacombe, answered questions.

At 7:15 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
