The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day at 5:02 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Maria Chaput, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Chaput, Fortin-Duplessis, Losier-Cool, Mockler, Poirier and Ringuette (6).

In attendance: Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, the committee continued its study on the use of the Internet, new media and social media, and the respect for Canadians' language rights. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

WITNESSES:

Quebec English School Boards Association:

Frank Verrillo, Vice-President;

David Birnbaum, Executive Director.

LEARN Quebec:

Michael Canuel, Chief Executive Officer;

Suzanne Longpré, Director, Communications and Public Relations.

Mr. Duff and Ms. Craig made a statement and answered questions.

At 6 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 6:07 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Verrillo, Mr. Birnbaum and Mr. Canuel made statements and, with the assistance of Ms. Longpré, answered questions.

At 7 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
