The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 6:05 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Elizabeth Hubley, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cochrane, Hubley, MacDonald, Oliver, Patterson, Poirier and Raine (7).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Harb and Martin (2).

In attendance: Claude Emery, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; and Ceri Au, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, October 20, 2011, the committee continued to examine and report on the management of the grey seal population off Canada's East Coast. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

WITNESSES:

Fisheries Resource Conservation Council:

Gerard Chidley, Former Chairman;

Donald Walker, Former Vice Chairman;

Mike Calcutt, Acting Executive Director.

Mr. Chidley made a statement and, together with Mr. Walker and Mr. Calcutt, answered questions.

At 7:07 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
