The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 5:22 p.m., in room 505, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Harb, Hubley, MacDonald, Manning, McInnis, Poirier, Raine, Stewart Olsen, Watt and Wells (10).

In attendance: Odette Madore, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Mona Ishack, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, the committee began to examine issues relating to the regulation of aquaculture in Canada and future prospects for the industry. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 14.)

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee proceeded in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).

At 5:38 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:39 p.m., the committee resumed in public to consider a draft special study budget application (study on issues related to the regulation of aquaculture in Canada and future prospects for the industry) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2014.

After debate, it was agreed that the following special study budget application (study on issues related to the regulation of aquaculture in Canada and future prospects for the industry), for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2014, be approved, for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration:

At 5:40 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:46 p.m., the committee resumed in camera.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 8, 2012, the committee continued to examine issues relating to the lobster fishery in Atlantic Canada and Quebec. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 6.)

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draft report.

At 7:03 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
