The Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights met this day, at 4:03 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Mobina S. B. Jaffer, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Ataullahjan, Baker, P.C., Hubley, Jaffer, Nancy Ruth and Zimmer. (7).

In attendance: Julian Walker and Dominique Valiquet, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, November 30, 2011, the committee began its examination of cyberbullying in Canada with regard to Canada's international human rights obligations under Article 19 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

WITNESSES:

Bill Belsey, President.

Queen's University:

Wendy Craig, Scientific Co-Director, Promoting Relationships & Eliminating Violence Network.

York University:

Debra Pepler, Scientific Co-Director, Promoting Relationships & Eliminating Violence Network.

Mr. Belsey made a presentation and answered questions.

The Honourable Senator Ataullahjan moved:

That the witness' PowerPoint presentation be filed as an exhibit with the clerk of the committee. (Exhibit 1120- 04-02-1-41/H1-SS-6-7,6 "1")

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

At 5:40 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:47 p.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. Craig and Ms. Pepler each made a statement and, together, answered questions

The Honourable Senator Nancy Ruth moved:

That the witnesses' PowerPoint presentation be filed as an exhibit with the clerk of the committee. (Exhibit 1120-04-02-1-41/H1-SS-6-7,6 "2")

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

At 7:48 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
