The Standing Committee on Rules, Procedures and the Rights of Parliament met this day, in camera, at 9:33 a.m., in room 356-S, Centre Block, the deputy chair, the Honourable David Braley, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Braley, Comeau, Fraser, Furey, and Stratton (5).

In attendance: Michel Patrice, Acting Law Clerk and Parliamentary Council; Till Heyde, Chamber Operations Clerk; and Sebastian Spano and Andre Barnes, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room.

The chair of the Subcommittee to Review Part XII of the Rules of the Senate, the Honourable Senator Braley, presented its first report.

In accordance with rule 92(2)(f), the committee considered a draft report.

It was moved that the report on revisions to Part XII of the Rules of the Senate be adopted.

The questions being moved on the motion, it was adopted.

It was agreed that a subcommittee, composed of the Honourable Senators Comeau, Fraser, Stratton, one other member of the committee designated by the chair and one other member of the committee designated by the deputy chair, be appointed to further review the Rules of the Senate.

At 9:56 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
