The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day in camera at 9:31 a.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Dennis Dawson, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boisvenu, Dawson, Doyle, Eggleton, P.C., Greene, MacDonald, Mercer, Merchant, Mockler, Unger and Verner, P.C. (11).

In attendance: Zachari Alaoui, Alexandre Lavoie, Dillan Theckedath and Terrence Thomas, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; Mona Ishack, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee proceeded to consider a draft agenda (future business).

It was agreed that senators' staff be allowed to stay in the room.

Pursuant to subsection 12(1) of the Conflict of Interest Code for Senators, a declaration of private interests was made as follows:

— By oral declaration, the Honourable Pana Merchant (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation — Radio Canada International).

Is it agreed that the chair be authorized to seek the authority of the Senate for an order of reference on the subject of the CBC and that the final language of the order of reference be approved by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

At 9:44 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
