The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met this day at 10:55 a.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable A. Raynell Andreychuk, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Ataullahjan, Dawson, Demers, Downe, Fortin-Duplessis, Housakos, Johnson, Oh, Robichaud, P.C., Smith, P.C. (Cobourg) and, Verner, P.C. (12).

In attendance: Natalie Mychajlyszyn, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 21, 2013, the committee began its study to examine such issues as may arise from time to time relating to foreign relations and international trade generally.

WITNESSES:

As individuals:

Maria Corina Machado, Member of the National Assembly of Venezuela;

Orlando Viera Blanco, Lawyer, Viera Blanco & Asociados, Attorneys at Law.

At 10:57 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:12 a.m., the committee resumed.

The chair made an opening statement.

Ms. Machado made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:20 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
