The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day in room 9, Victoria Building, at 5 p.m., the chair, the Honourable Claudette Tardif, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Champagne, P.C., Chaput, Charette- Poulin, Fortin-Duplessis, McIntyre, Poirier and Tardif (8).

In attendance: Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, the committee started its study on the application of the Official Languages Act and of the regulations and directives made under it.

WITNESSES:

Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages:

Graham Fraser, Commissioner of Official Langauges;

Ghislaine Saikaley, Assistant Commissioner, Compliance Assurance Branch;

Sylvain Giguère, Assistant Commissioner, Policy and Communications Branch;

Johane Tremblay, Director and General Counsel, Legal Affairs Branch.

Mr. Fraser made a presentation and, together with Ms. Saikaley, Ms. Tremblay and Mr. Giguère, answered questions.

At 6:51 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
