The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day in room 505, Victoria Building, at 5 p.m., the chair, the Honourable Claudette Tardif, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Chaput, Charette-Poulin, Fortin-Duplessis, McIntyre, Poirier and Tardif (7).

In attendance: Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 21, 2013, the committee continued its study on CBC/Radio-Canada's obligations under the Official Languages Act and some aspects of the Broadcasting Act. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

The committee considered a draft budget application for its special study on CBC/Radio-Canada's obligations under the Official Languages Act for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2014.

The Honourable Senator Fortin-Duplessis moved:

That the following special study budget application on CBC/Radio-Canada's obligations under the Official Languages Act for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2014, be approved for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration.

SUMMARY OF BUDGET

General expenses $9,500

TOTAL $9,500

At 5:04 p.m., pursuant to Rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to discuss a draft report.

It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room during the in camera portion of the meeting.

At 7:03 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
