The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 5:05 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Baker, Batters, McInnis, Meredith, Poirier and Stewart Olsen (6).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Nancy Ruth (1).

In attendance: Odette Madore, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

The clerk of the committee informed the committee of the unavoidable absence of the chair and deputy chair and presided over the election of an acting chair.

The Honourable Senator McInnis moved:

That the Honourable Senator Stewart Olsen do take the chair of the committee.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

The Honourable Senator Stewart Olsen took the chair.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, December 9, 2013, the committee continued its study on the regulation of aquaculture, current challenges and future prospects for the industry in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

WITNESSES:

The Georgian Bay Association:

Claudette Chabot, Chair, Aquaculture Committee;

Bob Duncanson, Executive Director.

Mr. Duncanson made a statement and, together with Ms. Chabot, answered questions.

At 6:17 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the acting chair.
