The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 5:35 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Hubley, Manning, McInnis, Meredith, Munson, Poirier, Raine, Stewart Olsen and Wells (9).
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, December 9, 2013, the committee continued its study on the regulation of aquaculture, current challenges and future prospects for the industry in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)
WITNESSES:
Fisheries and Oceans Canada:
Kevin Stringer, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Ecosystems and Fisheries Management;
Eric Gilbert, Director General, Aquaculture Management;
Wayne Moore, Director General, Strategic and Regulatory Science.
Mr. Stringer made a statement and, together with Messrs. Gilbert and Moore, answered questions.
At 6:45 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
