The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 1:01 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Daniel Lang, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Dagenais, Day, Kenny, Lang, Mitchell, Ngo, Stewart Olsen and White (9).

In attendance: Christina Yeung, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 19, 2014, the committee continued its study on security threats facing Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 9.)

WITNESSES:

As an individual:

Anita Anand, Professor of Law, Faculty of Law, University of Toronto (by video conference);

Robert Groves, Psychologist;

Christian Leuprecht, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science and Economics, Royal Military College of Canada;

Clark R. McCauley Jr., Professor, Department of Psychology, Bryn Mawr College (by video conference).

The chair made a statement.

Ms. Anand made a statement and answered questions.

At 2:02 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 2:08 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Groves made a statement and answered questions.

At 3 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 3:16 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. McCauley and Mr. Leuprecht each made a statement and together answered questions.

At 4:28 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
