The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 1:04 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Daniel Lang, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Dagenais, Day, Kenny, Lang, Mitchell, Ngo and Stewart Olsen (8).

In attendance: Christina Yeung, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 19, 2014, the committee continued its study on security threats facing Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 9.)

WITNESSES:

Lorenzo Vidino, Director, Program on Extremism, Center for Cyber and Homeland Security, George Washington University;

Matthew Levitt, Director, Stein Program on Counterterrorism and Intelligence, The Washington Institute
(by video conference).

Correctional Service Canada:

Don Head, Commissioner.

The chair made a statement.

Ms. Duhaime made a statement and answered questions.

At 1:58 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 2:05 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Vidino made a statement and answered questions.

At 3:06 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 3:19 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Head made a statement and answered questions.

At 4:10 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 4:15 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Levitt made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:16 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
