The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 10:28 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Chaput, Cordy, Eggleton, P.C., Enverga, Nancy Ruth, Ogilvie, Seidman, Seth and Stewart Olsen (9).

In attendance: Sonya Norris, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, September 18, 2014, the committee continued its study of Bill C-17, An Act to amend the Food and Drugs Act. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 19).

WITNESSES:

Canadian Pharmacists Association:

Perry Eisenschmid, Chief Executive Officer;

Janet Cooper, Vice President, Professional and Membership Affairs.

HealthCareCAN:

Bill Tholl, President and Chief Executive Officer;

Myrella Roy, Executive Director, Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists.

The College of Family Physicians of Canada:

Dr. Jamie Meuser, Executive Director, Continuing Professional Development and Practice Support.

Canadian Institutes of Health Research:

Dr. Robert Peterson, Executive Director, Drug Safety and Effectiveness Network (by video conference).

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Eisenschmid, Mr. Tholl and Ms. Roy each made a statement and, together with Ms. Cooper, answered questions.

At 11:25 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:28 a.m., the committee resumed.

Dr. Meuser and Dr. Peterson each made a statement and, together, answered questions.

At 12:22 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
