The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 10:29 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Eggleton, P.C., Enverga, Frum, Nancy Ruth, Ogilvie, Raine, Seidman, Stewart Olsen and Wells (9).

In attendance: Sonya Norris, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on February 26, 2014, the committee continued its study on the increasing incidence of obesity in Canada: causes, consequences and the way forward. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 22.)

WITNESSES:

Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission:

Scott Hutton, Executive Director, Broadcasting.

Nanao Kachi, Director, Social and Consumer Policy;

Advertising Standards Canada:

Janet Feasby, Vice-president, Standards.

Association of Canadian Advertisers:

Ron Lund, President and CEO.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Hutton made a statement and, together with Mr. Kachi, answered questions.

At 11:28 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:32 a.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. Feasby and Mr. Lund each made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:10 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
