The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 9:30 a.m., in the Duquesne Room, Delta Hotel Quebec, the chair, the Honourable Dennis Dawson, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dawson, Housakos and Plett (3).

In attendance: Dillian Theckedath, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Mona Ishack, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, December 9, 2013, the committee continued its study on the challenges faced by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in relation to the changing environment of broadcasting and communications. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

The chair made a statement and the committee observed a moment of silence to mark the passing of Corporal Nathan Cirillo and the shooting on Parliament Hill.

Mr. Doyon, Mr. Caissie and Ms. Blais each made a statement and answered questions.

Mr. Gignac and Mr. Powell each made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:11 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 12:58 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Lortie made a statement and, together with Mr. Énault and Mr. Rogers, answered questions.

At 2:04 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 2:06 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Thibodeau and Mr. Lehmann each made a statement and answered questions.

At 3:13 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
