The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 9 a.m., in the Governor General Main room, Hilton Toronto Hotel, the chair, the Honourable Dennis Dawson, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dawson, Eggleton, P.C., Housakos, MacDonald, Munson, Plett and Unger (7).

In attendance: Terrence Thomas, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Mona Ishack, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, December 9, 2013, the committee continued its study on the challenges faced by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in relation to the changing environment of broadcasting and communications. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

Mr. Pelley made a statement and, together with Mr. Wheeler, answered questions.

At 10 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:03 a.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Abramson made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:44 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:52 a.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Rosemond made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:39 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 1:02 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Dziadyk made a statement and, together with Mr. Tuffs, answered questions.

Mr. Weigelt made a statement and answered questions.

At 2:41 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 2:48 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Roman and Ms. MacDonald Denton made a statement and answered questions.

At 3:58 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
