The Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs of the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day, at 12:12 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Roméo Antonius Dallaire, presiding.

Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Dallaire, Day, Lang, Plett and White (5).

In attendance: Martin Auger, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, and delegated on Monday, April 28, 2014 by the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence, the subcommittee began its consideration of the medical, social, and operational impacts of mental health issues affecting serving and retired members of the Canadian Armed Forces, including operational stress injuries (OSIs) such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the subcommittee, Issue No. 5.)

WITNESSES:

Mental Health Commission of Canada:

Howard Chodos, Director, Mental Health Strategy for Canada;

Jennifer Vornbrock, Vice President, Knowledge and Innovation.

The chair made an opening statement.

Mr. Chodos made a statement, and together with Ms. Vornbrock answered questions.

At 1:15 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the chair.
