The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met this day at 10:33 a.m. in room 160- S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Raynell Andreychuk, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Ataullahjan, Dawson, Downe, Housakos, Johnson, Ngo, Oh, Poirier, Rivard and Smith (Cobourg), P.C. (11).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Omidvar (1).

In attendance: Natalie Mychajlyszyn and Pascal Tremblay, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, the committee continued its study on recent political and economic developments in Argentina in the context of their potential impact on regional and global dynamics, including on Canadian policy and interests, and other related matters. WITNESSES:

Her Excellency Norma Nascimbene de Dumont, Ambassador;

Sebastian Molteni, Counsellor, Political and Education Sector;

Cecilia Ines Silberberg, Secretary, Political and Cultural Section.

The chair called the meeting to order.

Her Excellency Norma Nascimbene de Dumont made a statement, and together with Mr. Molteni and Ms. Silberberg, answered questions.

At 11:30 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:33 a.m., the committee resumed.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, January 27, 2016, the committee continued its study on foreign relations and international trade generally. Anthony Giles, Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy, Dispute Resolution and International Affairs, Labour Program.

Rakesh Patry, Director General, International and Intergovernmental Labour Affairs, Labour Program.

Mr. Giles and Mr. Patry made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:10 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
