The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 5:50 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Ghislain Maltais, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bernard, Beyak, Gagné, Maltais, Mercer, Ogilvie, Oh, Pratte, Runciman, Tannas, Tardif and Woo (12).

In attendance: Aïcha Coulibaly, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 9, 2017, the committee began its study on the potential impact of the effects of climate change on the agriculture, agri-food and forestry sectors.

WITNESSES:

Canadian Federation of Agriculture:

Ron Bonnett, President;

Drew Black, Director of Environment and Science Policy.

Canadian Horticultural Council:

Rebecca Lee, Executive Director.

Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers:

Justine Taylor, Science and Government Relations Manager.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Bonnett and Ms. Lee made statements and, together with Mr. Black and Ms. Taylor, answered questions.

At 6:59 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:02 p.m., the committee, pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), proceeded in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).

At 7:04 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
