The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 5:01 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Ghislain Maltais, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Maltais, Mercer, Ogilvie, Petitclerc and Woo (6).

In attendance: Aïcha Coulibaly, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 9, 2017, the committee continued its study on the potential impact of the effects of climate change on the agriculture, agri-food and forestry sectors. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 26.)

WITNESSES:

Retail Council of Canada:

David Wilkes, Senior Vice President, Grocery Division and Government Relations;

Jason McLinton, Vice President, Grocery Division and Regulatory Affairs.

Canadian Honey Council:

Rod Scarlett, Executive Director.

National Farmers Union:

Lydia Carpenter, 1st Vice President (Policy) (by video conference).

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Wilkes and Mr. McLinton made statements and answered questions.

At 5:53 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:57 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Scarlett and Ms. Carpenter made statements and answered questions.

At 6:22 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
