The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 9:01 a.m., in the Sheraton South Room, Sheraton Cavalier, the chair, the Honourable Diane F. Griffin, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Griffin and Maltais (2).

In attendance: Aïcha Coulibaly, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Marcy Galipeau, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 9, 2017, the committee continued its study on the potential impact of the effects of climate change on the agriculture, agri-food and forestry sectors. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 26.)

Cherie Copithorne-Barnes, Chair;

Reynold Bergen, Research Director, Beef Cattle Research Council.

Biological Carbon Canada:

Graham Gilchrist, Chief Executive Officer.

Alberta Greenhouse Growers Association:

Anna De Paoli, Consultant to the Alberta Greenhouse Growers Association.

As an individual:

Douglas J. Cattani, Department of Plant Science, University of Manitoba.

Alberta Innovates:

Christine Murray, Director, Agricultural Technologies.

InnoTech Alberta:

Ross Chow, Executive Director.

The chair made a statement.

Ms. Copithorne-Barnes and Mr. Gilchrist made statements and, together with Mr. Bergen, answered questions.

At 10:12 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:23 a.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. De Paoli and Mr. Cattani made statements and answered questions.

At 11:07 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:15 a.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. Murray and Mr. Chow made statements and answered questions.

At 11:56 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
