The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 8:03 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Diane F. Griffin, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dagenais, Deacon (Ontario), Doyle, Gagné, Griffin, Maltais, Mercer, Oh, Petitclerc and Woo (10).

In attendance: Corentin Bialais and Offah Obale, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Síofra McAllister, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 15, 2018, the committee continued its study on how the value-added food sector can be more competitive in global markets. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 47.)

Bruce MacIntyre, Member of Executive Committee.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Bacon and Ms. Lee made statements and answered questions.

At 9:05 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 9:13 a.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Hetherington and Mr. Harrison made statements and, together with Mr. MacIntyre and Mr. VanNiejenhuis, answered questions.

At 10:03 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:06 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft report.

At 10:09 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:10 a.m., the committee resumed in public.

The Honourable Senator Gagné moved:

That the following special study supplementary budget application for the committee's study on how the value- added food sector can be more competitive in global markets, for $122,965 for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2019, be approved for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration:

ACTIVITY 1: Kelowna, B.C. & Winnipeg, Man. $ 122,965
TOTAL $ 122,965

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

At 10:11 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
