The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day at 6:55 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Lillian Eva Dyck, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Enverga, Moore, Oh, Patterson, Raine and Tannas (6).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Mockler and Watt (2).

In attendance: Brittany Collier and Alexandre Lavoie, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 18, 2016, the committee continued its study on best practices and on-going challenges relating to housing in First Nation and Inuit communities in Nunavut, Nunavik, Nunatsiavut and the Northwest Territories. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 3.)

WITNESSES:

Jeannie Arreak-Kullualik, Director, Social Cultural Development Department;

Adla Itorcheak, Policy Analyst on Housing.

NCC Development Limited:

Clarence Synard, Vice President.

Kent Homes:

Ray Girouard, Director of Commercial Sales.

J. D. Irving, Limited:

David Saucy, Vice-President, Construction and Equipment Division;

David Irving, Director of Business Strategy, Construction and Equipment Division.

The chair made a statement.

Ms. Arreak-Kullualik, Mr. Synard, Ms. Itorcheak, Mr. Saucy, and Mr. Irving each made a statement and, together with Mr. Girouard, answered questions.

At 8:54 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
