The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day at 9:09 a.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Lillian Eva Dyck, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boniface, Christmas, Doyle, Dyck, Lovelace Nicholas, McPhedran, Oh, Pate, Patterson and Sinclair (10).
In attendance: Brittany Collier, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 17, 2016, the committee continued examination of Bill S-3, An Act to amend the Indian Act (elimination of sex-based inequities in registration). (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 13.)

The chair made a statement.
The Honourable Senator Patterson moved:
That, notwithstanding the motion adopted by the committee on December 6, 2016 that the committee report Bill S-3 to the Senate with a recommendation that the bill should not be proceeded with further in the Senate, the committee resume its consideration of Bill S-3, An Act to amend the Indian Act (elimination of sex-based inequities in registration).
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
Ms. Montminy made a statement and, together with Mr. Reiher, Ms. Nepton, and Ms. St-Aubin, answered questions.
At 10:01 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 10:09 a.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Bellegarde, Mr. Taylor, and Ms. Schellenberg each made a statement and answered questions.
At 11:02 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
