The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day at 6:46 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Lillian Eva Dyck, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Christmas, Coyle, Doyle, Dyck, McCallum, McPhedran, Pate, Patterson and Tannas (9).

In attendance: Brittany Collier and Marlisa Tiedemann, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, the committee continued its examination of the subject matter of those elements contained in Divisions 11, 12 and 19 of Part 4 of Bill C-86, A second Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 27, 2018 and other measures.

WITNESSES:

First Nations Land Management Resource Centre:

William McCue, Board Member, Lands Advisory Board;

Steven Aronson, Legal Counsel;

Meko Nicholas, Executive Director.

Treaty Land Entitlement Committee of Manitoba Inc.:

Chief Nelson Genaille, Sapotaweyak Cree Nation, Manitoba (by video conference);

Chris Henderson, Executive Director (by video conference).

Opaskwayak Cree Nation:

Edith Spence, Manager, Lands Division.

The chair made a statement.

Chief Genaille, Mr. McCue and Ms. Spence each made a statement and, together with Mr. Henderson, Mr. Aronson and Mr. Nicholas, answered questions.

At 8:26 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
